Giftbaby Shares

Giftbaby Shares are community-funded vegetable and herb offerings donated to our community partners for postpartum meal preparation.

Tell me more about those meal offerings!

These meals are specifically catered to the Philadelphia postpartum community and this includes parents and families with children of any age. Postpartum journeys continue past the vulnerable few weeks right after birth! These meals are a resource for parents even two years into their child’s life. If you are a friend or family to a new parent, food is a wonderful gift and always appreciated.

How do I place an order?

Menus will be available on a weekly basis for delivery to select areas in Philadelphia city limits between July and October, coinciding with Dirtbaby’s growing season. Please check back as menus become available. Take a look at previous menus below while you wait!

Who creates the meals?

Paloma Irizarry is a full-spectrum birthworker and herbalist and Ruben Alexis is the chef behind That Pikliz Jawn (a mostly Haitian pop-up). Together they prepare these subsidized meal deliveries with the Giftbaby shares. They receive the veggies and herbs from Dirtbaby on a weekly basis and turn them into meals with postpartum nutrition in mind.

How is this funded?

This is where you come in! Each season we call on our community far and wide to make donations. Through our fiscal sponsor, Experimental Farm Network, all donations are tax-deductible! Thank you to every person and organization who continues to make this program possible.

We really enjoy getting to combine my knowledge about nutrition needs postpartum with Ruben's culinary genius. You can expect lots of plant-based stews, soups, plenty of rich, fresh veggie options and every once in a while some sweet treats (check out @thatpiklizjawn on IG for a look at Ruben's cooking style). Although the intention is to cater to a freshly postpartum body's needs, this nourishing offer is good for every body.”
